Our chorus is very fortunate to have two very musically talented individuals leading us as we search for a director. Joan and Barb have teamed up to provide us with knowledge, motivation and musical training to keep us moving forward toward our goals. They complement each other very well and keep rehearsal interesting with their unique blend of musical expertise and humor.

Barb Quinn

Barb comes from a very musical family. Her mother and father were active musicians in their church. Her three brothers were very active in music throughout their school years. One of her brothers is a member of the Peoria Barbershop Chorus.

She has a bachelor degree in music education and a masters degree in educational administration. She taught instrumental music for 13 years. She has been a junior high and now an elementary principal for the past 19 years. Barb is currently the principal at Conklin Elementary School in Rockford.

Since 1994, when Barb joined River City Sound, she has sung both baritone and bass. Barb served on the chorus management team, has been a co-section leader and is a member of the quartet, Limelight.

Joan White

Joan has served as a section leader, assistant director, president, vice president, and the regional board since joining the Sweet Adeline organization in 1981.

Joan teaches high school English at Jefferson High School in Rockford.

I don't know where I would be or what I would be doing if it hadn't been for Sweet Adelines...this wonderful organization has not only given me life-long friendships and cherished memories, but also the opportunity and the confidence to expand my musical knowledge, and to realize that there are no limits to learning and growing. And now, I am very much enjoying giving a measure of that back to my chorus.”
